Our Nation Has Lost its Moral Compass
Reality constantly recedes in the face of social madness


When that which should be regarded with public outrage as horrific, is instead accepted placidly as commonplace, and therefore inconsequential, a nation has lost its moral compass. When liars are not only not held accountable for their lies, but in spite of the fact that the truth is subsequently known, they are allowed to continue to tell the same lies with social impunity, reality itself becomes ever more obscure, more confused, and inevitably, social madness inexorably sets its roots ever deeper into the nation’s consciousness.

A first draft of these words was written during the last days of a political campaign, (early November of 2008), in which blatant outright lies became so routine that the very idea of honor and honesty in the nation’s political life has become absurd. Those whose policies we can all see have shamelessly favored the rich and privileged for a generation, those whose policies have victimized the common people, eroding the dignity of our lives, robbing our children of their dreams, and filling our lives with constant anxiety, mounted a transparent ruse of being FOR the very people they have so wantonly and voraciously dispossessed.

In their determination to fool as many of the people as possible, as often as they can, these people have completely abandoned any vestige, or even the slightest pretense, of Honor. They are absolutely shameless in perpetrating this ruse right in front of our eyes, with complete contempt for the judgment of History, and knowing full well that all but the most uneducated and gullible among us are fully aware of their dishonesty, even as they look us straight in the eye, and with no trace of moral scruple, lie to our face.
