Democracy Must be What We Practice, AND What We Preach
Our method is our message, and vice-versa
Our process (Democracy) is our most important policy. Upon it, upon the process we establish for making just and honorable democratic decisions, our entire agenda of social justice depends. Democracy in our nation must be the most important policy that we advocate. If we can make this nation a truly democratic nation, it will be a nation in which the government is controlled by The People, and therefore the highest purpose of government will be to promote the Common Good of The People. The government will exist for The People, to serve our needs, to serve our Common Good, above any other purpose.
If we advocate for lesser goals than a truly democratic nation, if we advocate for policies that merely improve our situation under the de facto tyranny of special interests in which we live, we will fail in our purpose in the long run, even if we should experience successes along the way. If our nation is not truly democratic, if it remains under the control of the wealthy and powerful, then any gains we win for an agenda that serves the interests of The People will be rare, and even when won, will be temporary. Whatever we establish will eventually be undone by the forces of special interest. Any victories we win will only be undone, unless we defeat the power of special interests, and establish ongoing democratic control.
Our process, Democracy, is our most important policy. It is the overarching linchpin of any platform that serves Justice for The People.
Democracy must be our process. Democracy must be our platform. Democracy must be our agenda. What we preach must be what we practice, and what we practice must be what we preach.
If our desire is to serve the cause of Justice and Equality for All, then we must realize that it is Democracy, and Democracy alone, that inherently serves this Common Good. Our process is our most important policy.
